This is the question which we will occasionally ask ourselves when as we hit the snooze alarm in the mornings. For some it goes away and as a routine animal we will go along our way to work…
We work to get paid for our services
The logical answer anyone would say is that we work to get money in order to survive. We have commitments and personal obligations to fulfil and therefore we need money. It’s just that simple ? or is it more complicated than that ? Ever wondered why rich people still work ? hmm.. if its for money and they have it.. why work ?
We work for social engagement
I have a colleague that gets bored if she has to stay at home. She doesn’t take mc’s or leave but is always always late for work. Probably she doesn’t really need the money and is not afraid of being fired, but what she really wants is social engagement. It is after all a factor in Maslow’s hierarchy of needs.
We work to reduce risk
At our core we want to believe that we are capable and that we can do anything that we put our minds to. In the end we choose to work, those who chose to work for others are basically not risk takers. Are we really not ambitious or is fear holding us back.We tell ourselves we can’t start a business because we don’t have capital, we don’t have “sales skills”, we don’t have a backup etc etc etc and that’s why we still work for others…. the real reason is because we simply are afraid of failing and just cannot take risks. Maybe we tell ourselves that we don’t need much, we can survive with bare minimum and have convinced ourselves that routine is what we need in life. Hmm.. is that really the case ? Just by working for other’s can we be really contented ? I know I am not , how about you?
Well these are just my thoughts, you are welcomed to add on ! Maybe I missed out more reasons..
